Robert Usher-Somers
Partner – Personal Tax
Work
Robert joined Arnold Hill & Co as a tax manager in 1986 becoming a partner in 1998; he now oversees the personal tax department. He is a chartered accountant, a chartered tax advisor as well as being a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
Robert advises generally on all personal tax issues and is frequently asked to advise on issues such as:
- Planning for non-UK domiciled individuals
- The advantages of and tax efficient extraction of funds from offshore trusts
- Capital gains entrepreneur’s relief
- Maximising capital gains tax exemption where clients own more than one residence
- Inheritance tax planning
- Partnerships, including LLP’s
Robert also advises on:
- The tax aspects of re-structuring of corporate groups
- Creation of charitable trusts
- Share options
- Valuations of shares in private companies
- Tax liabilities of trusts and estates
- Non-UK resident landlords
Outside Interests
Robert is a keen and competitive ballroom dancer. He also enjoys carpentry and metalwork. Robert is married with two adopted children from El Salvador.
